Africa , A Rising Continent – Global Leadership Seminar
The Global Leadership Seminar – Africa, A Rising Continent (Monday, July 29 – Friday, August 2, 2013) , produced by the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia in partnership with the University of Pennsylvania's Africa Center, will focus on key issues impacting the rise of Africa as a leading competitor in the global marketplace. The seminar, open to all rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, will feature guest lecturers, student-led breakout discussions, a half-day global crisis simulation and an opportunity to participate in a live video-conference with high school students from across the African continent. The fifth (optional) day offers a field trip to Washington , D.C. , where students will have the opportunity to visit some of Africa 's leading political and cultural institutions. Red Fox Studio is a children's art program that is dedicated to fostering the young artist. Through a hand-on approach and study of various artists and movements young artists are inspired to learn from the past to create in the present, and inspire the future. Ashford Farm Riding day camp
The riding day camp at Ashford Farm is for children ages 8 to 14 who are interested in spending their summer with horses in an atmosphere designed for safety and fun. In addition to daily riding and horse care instruction, camp activities include arts and crafts, swimming and outdoor games. Special events include a camp picnic, field trips, a sleepover, a camp horse show and Parents Day. Enrollment is limited to 40. Beginner, intermediate and advanced groups are formed according to riding ability. The farm has an art building, two barns, three outdoor rings and a cross-country course. Door-to-door transportation and before-and-after camp care are also available. Bala Cynwyd School for Young Children
Our outstanding program of summer fun, outdoors and in well-equipped air-conditioned classrooms, provides children with a multitude of experiences that enrich learning and keep them busy and happy. Certified Teachers provide mature guidance and developmentally appropriate activities that are theme based. Everyday classroom learning center activities include music and movement, art and messy activities, science and nature experiences, and chances to explore number and math concepts. The on-site pool, designed specifically to teach young children to swim, provides hours of refreshing play and learning with friends, as well as small group swimming lessons by two certified swimming instructors.
Fun Fridays include: Carnival Day with a Moonbounce and Carnival treats; Western Day with pony rides; Music Fest with a special performance by a local children's band; Olympic Day when everyone takes home a medal; Camping Week/Pajama Day with pancakes for morning snack and camp stories in an outdoor tent; etc. The spacious playground provides lots of time for outdoor free-play and opportunities to swing, climb, slide, clatter on the bridge, slide down a fire pole, run, jump, build, explore sand and water, and to hone physical skills and facilitate priceless social interactions. The outdoor playground also includes two basketball hoops, a soccer net, and a volleyball net for instructed game play, along with space for regular bike races on tricycles and two-wheelers. Additionally, our Gym Teacher conducts weekly lessons on developing gross and fine motor skills using movement concepts that allow children to enjoy exercise in a non-competitive setting. Older children will go on field trips within the community, as well as a few special jaunts, such as the Camden Adventure Aquarium.

Stratford Friends School: Adventures in Learning Summer 2013
July 1-August 2, 2013
Adventures in Learning is designed for K-8 students with learning disabilities. Multisensory instruction in a small-class setting will reinforce and sustain academic skills over the summer while promoting self-confidence. The Morning Academics focuses on strengthening reading, writing, and math skills. Afternoon Explorations offers traditional summer camp activities, including arts and crafts, cooperative games, and swimming instruction. Recreational field trips are taken every Friday. Extended day available 3pm-5pm.
June 24-August 2, Fast ForWord is a computer-based auditory training program offered to build skills that language-impaired children need for learning. Contact SFS for more information.

The Tennis Farm Summer Camp

The Tennis Farm has been running tennis programs for children in the Greater Philadelphia area for more than 40 years and is committed to keeping kids active in body and mind. The program goals are to create a positive environment for learning, playing and having fun, and to promote an active, healthy lifestyle. Using smaller racquets and courts, and softer balls, the program is designed to build confidence while teaching tennis skills.
